Inspector Drake and The Perfekt Crime

When a genius commits a murder, the plan is perfect. But is it foolproof?

The legendary Inspector Drake attempts to unravel a plot with more twists in it than, well, a really twisty thing. Who is the mysterious Dr Short and why did he marry a warthog? Has he murdered his fourth wife - or did she murder him first? Has he really got two daughters called Sabrina or is one of them telling porkies? Where is Frank the taxi driver? And, perhaps most importantly of all, why is there a lamppost in the living room?

A rollicking comedy wrapped up with murder, mayhem and mystery.

Spring Production 2011

Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward

blithe spirit

One of the most popular plays ever, an improbable farce about one husband and two wives.

Charles Condomine, an author, invites the gloriously eccentric Madame Arcati (immortalised in the film by Margaret Rutherford) to his house to conduct a seance. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira, who makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost...

FAQs

Why have we changed to one venue?

We have looked at our loyal audience and chosen the most central point for both members and where our audience lived.

We have over the years built strong links in the commune of Secondigny and the town has the benefit of 2 theatres so we can cater for both big productions and smaller intimate productions. We then voted at our AGM to settle in Secondigny.

Why do your ticket prices change?

Ticket prices are always a headache and we do try to keep them as low as possible. There are a lot of costs involved in putting on a production – not just the set, costumes and props, but also performance licences (which usually run into several hundred Euros), rehearsal space and theatre hire for example. Local French groups often do not have to take many of these costs into account – as an association of the commune, they are usually given free rehearsal space and theatre hire, and they often write their own scripts as well. Our membership comes from all over the region, so in order to centralise the rehearsal location and maximise our audience we do not benefit from many of these advantages.

All we can promise is that we will try to keep the ticket price as low as we can without compromising future productions.

Can I be a member even if I don't act and I don't have any backstage experience? I would just like to be involved.

Of course! There are so many behind-the-scenes jobs that need enthusiasm but no previous experience (for example if you can pour a glass of wine that you could be a valuable member of our front-of-house team!). Want to know more? Then contact one of our committee – see the Join Us page

What about your French audience?

We do have a loyal French following, but for most of our productions you do need to be fairly fluent in English to really enjoy the show. The webpages for current and future productions now have a summary of the storyline (in English!) which we hope will help.

Who was The White Eyed Kaffir?

Anne and Frank Lovell very generously gave us the lighting equipment which Frank had previously used in his professional life and Anne told us that her grandfather was George H Chirgwin, a music hall entertainer and early filmstar who performed under the name of The White Eyed Kaffir (see victorian-cinema.net for more info). As this was shortly after the Variety Extravaganza (Spring 2010), we thought it would be fitting to acknowledge their contribution in the memory this colourful fellow thespian.
